November 29, 2010

Welcome back! Have fun reading all the fun essays below!

So Wednesday is our last meeting. So make sure to bring your completed journals, and one rough draft copy of your entire portfolio for in-class workshopping. Final Portfolios are DUE WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 8 BY 3:00 (there was a date error in my handout).

Journal #24: Advice to a Young Writer (this was from Wednesday, November 17)
Now that you’ve read Stephen King’s essay from On Writing, I want you to imagine what kind of reading/writing advice you would give to a young writer, or maybe even a younger version of yourself.

Journal #25: Write an Intro/Conclusion to your Portfolio
Try your hand at either introducing your collection or concluding your portfolio written to your potential reader. Think about your process, themes that emerged, etc.

Journal #26: Revisiting your Creative Monster
Go back and reread your initial Creative Monster story--it was the first thing we wrote in this class. You can reread the initial prompt on the blog. I want you to revisit that story--has it changed? Does it have a different ending? Beginning? Is the monster totally different? Is it a dragon you have now slain? Have you sold your soul to it and now have to retrieve it? Whatever it is, write your Creative Monster story again...but better.
